Well all you lucky cannabis growers who get to use the great outdoors as your growroom, the season is upon us (in the northern hemisphere at any rate) when many start turning their thoughts and plans to the upcoming outdoor crop.

For those of us who don't, or can't grow outdoors, please share. Pictures, plans, considerations for grow sites, favorite soil preparation methods, water catchment methods, nutrients and feeding schedules, stealth and security measures, plant selection, seed or clone, best strains for outdoors, (anything else I left out)........ all of it.

I know that some superior outdoor cannabis is going to be produced this year, and it would be awesome to follow some crops from start to harvest to hash right here at FMB. So come on, which of you outdoor growers is the shiznit?

Looking forward to participants and pictures from any and all outdoor growers,

YukonBikerGuy

Lil BUMP.

Come on guys & gals, I know there are some awesome outdoor growers planning fantastic crops for this year's growing season, and there are always new outdoor growers planning thier first grow for this year. Please share.

For a quick start, I will post the top 10 outdoor grow tips from Shantibabba, written starting page 83 in issue #12 of Treating Yourself magazine, for details on these tips, the entire magazine is available as a pdf download here http://www.treatingyourself.com/dhtml/issues.php

Shantibabba's Top 10 Outdoor Grow Tips:

1) Select a seed or clone appropriate to your area's climatic conditions
2) Find a suitable site for outdoor growing
3) Choose whether to start from seed, seedling, or clone
4) Prepare soil and add fertilizers needed to grow to flower
5) Plan for watering, water catchment, and mulching
6) Direct or indirect sunlight?
7) Strategies for pests, plagues and predators
8) Key rules for planting a plot
9) Darkening or weatherproofing the plants during the final weeks
10) Harvest, drying, and making good or average flowers into great product

The article in the magazine goes into much greater detail, and is at least some sort of leaping off point for outdoor newbies and perhaps contains a missing element for more experienced outdoor growers, and there are a few nice photos as well.

Comments? Corrections? Got better Outdoor advice? See something missing? Please, post it.

No body thinks new jersey is a great place to grow outdoors but i live in south jersey where its nothing but horse farms and corn for miles. i have my perfect little grow site and right now i got my seedlings going indoors. Got my A batch (the headiest shit) my B batch (still some real nice smoke) and of course my C batch (all the excess seed i know nothing of their origins) hope all goes well this year and I will try to keep updates going

by the way anyone have some good nutrients you can recommend?

i'm gonna clear some tree's make more sun, at my outdoor spot this week....plan on sinking huge pots in the ground(gophers)....prolly gonna do 12-15...i've started vegging the plants under a mh allready...gonna put em out end of may...

Nice, I was wondering about burying pots to keep them rootbound whilst enjoying the natural sinlight to force flowering, as I get nearly 24 hrs of light in the summer. By the time its 12 hrs of light, its too cold for plants to live outside. Or do you bury pots for a different reason?

i'd rather just stick straight in the ground...but we got gopher problems...so the easiest soution is to sink huge pots in the ground, the pots have holes cut into them, for the roots to get out of the pot, so rootbound isn't really an issue

start a little worm farm first, contain them and they will multiply with mulching, and your soil will be the best a worm can make--then a million will blow your plant tohights

Hey dude I had the same problem with gophers and i used 2 ground stakes(they have batterys and make a noise the little varmits hate)It worked for me anyway. Good luck!If you are sinking the pots ...be sure to use LOTS of perlite..Drainage is a must! Also I think too many people skip using LIME with their soil mix.Cheap insurance for a sucessful year. It will NEVER raise the ph over 7 so it helps keep things in balance. Good Luck and keep postin !!!

i have to take some pics but something odd is happening. my crop is less than a foot high and is already flowering.

this worries me because once is starts flowering, isn't the vegetative state almost over thus stunting the plants growth?

I would hate for my plants to stop growing and just start flowering with them being less than a foot high. the yield will be awful. anyone have any idea's on what this is or what i can do?

Thanks

if they are outside...then you can count on the fact that there is not enough hours of daylight yet to keep them from wanting to flower. you can put a small light of somesort with them .Keep on for 2 or 3 hours after sun goes down. If this is not an option.....dont worry too much as they WILL eventally stop flowering as the days become longer.

Or if they are in small containers, they could be getting rootbound which causes flowering in many kinds of cannabis, even under 24 hr lighting. Plants can switch back to veg from the flowering state, but it usually causes some delay in development, how far into flower they are will usually determine how long the hormonal turn-around takes.

does making a plant root bound actually cause it to flower?

Never grown either of those, sorry...

does making a plant root bound actually cause it to flower?

Yes, dependant upon strain. I have some that start to flower at the first sign of rootbind, and another that wont flower totally rootbound without a light change.

Not too often im from central jersey man.. i dont care what ANYONE says new jersey is not dirty, it is not filled with garbage around every corner, it is not cloudy all day because of pollution and smog.. alright ill stop but seriously its terrible when all people think of is "dirty jersey".. where i live i have beautiful open fields of corn, horse farms and blue skies.

personally, new jersey has the capability of producing some fine erb, such as these specimins and my yields from years past. Thanks for the kind words!

I want to see the rest of FMBer's throwing shots of their 2009 grow up!

I feel the same way my man! I actually go to school up in central jersey. Anytime I talk to people from out-of-state they always have the same image of jersey: dirty ha. Then I go up to North Jersey and I can understand why haha. Good luck with the grow can't wait to see updates

Hey there, i was looking into growing a lot of plants in an undisclosed location. I was wondering how you keep wild animals out like in colorado, and what u use if anything to hide the actual plants? like a different type of bush or if u grow in a condensed plant area or open space. Also is it better to grow near a river if its available to you or should u stick near higher ground. thanks a lot. I also posted this on (outdoor growing of '08)

wellllll to keeps little bastards like deer and rabbits away you can always use a fence, hair, or predator urine.

and with where to grow, thats like picking a lesser evil. you want vegetation so you can hide the plants, but at the same time the protection means you get less light than an open field, so your going to have to find a medium that works for you.

and sometimes, especially in the south, if you plant too close to a river you might have to worry about flooding.

hope this helped, and good luck to you.
