Ok, I have been putting this off for a while now, mostly just from laziness and more interest in hitting the new bong than anything else I guess. Lol.

A while ago I mentioned to a few people that I not only made hash from my frosty bud trimmings and popcorn buds, but also from all the clippings I get throughout the cycle, right from cloning prunage bits, yellow leaves, plucked fan leaves, culled plants of any sex, all of it. Veg trim hash. Well there was some interest from a few people in this seeming collection of smokeables from total garbage, and I promised that I would document the process next time around, and this thread is the result.

To start with, it seems that most strains I like to run seem to have some trichs forming during the vegative phase. My M1 and the Sister M in particular make quite a bit, even under 22hrs of light per day. Here are a couple of shots of the Sister M in full veg under 22hrs. You can see the frosty on the little leaves even.

Ok so now I'm gathering all the stuff together, same as for any other batch. I love my Bubblenow, its an awesome ice-hash innovation.

The bag of veg trim is about 4.5 lbs.... I been lazy a while, lol.

Mashed it up a bit and took out the major sticks ect. Not too many in there as I kinda keep it cleanish as I collect it, but not always.

That is what 200g of the dried material looks like, max load for the 5 gal Bubblenow bag.

I'm going to skip most of the basic process, as it is well documented in several posts by several people in these forums.

Here is the foamy goodness comming out of the Bubblenow, and a shot of the dark colored water in the bags.

I mixed for 15 min, then a rinse run for 4 min, all into the same bucket. Some will say I have mixed too long, but bear with me. From experience, I know that the quality of veg trim hash is affected little by mixing time except for the particulate issue, and we will come to that shortly.....

Not going to post many pics of the bags either, but here is a shot of the 220 workbag, and you can see all the particulate sludge in there. Better in the bag than in the hash. Washed that crud right down the drain, after I washed all the foam through it with my ice water sprayer.

I must say that dabbing the patties gently in the dabbing screen (pressing screen is a misleading name methinks) on a paper towel and leaving them damp did make it much easier to chop up to dry.

Here are the dabbed but damp patties, the patties chopped up wet, and close ups of the wet chopped hashes.

The 160u looks & tastes pretty green (as usual), and with veg trim hash from dry crap like this, I just always assume that even tho it will get you high, it is really going to be non-smokeable because of contaminant, and save it up in a jar for a later project.... maybe cookies or something.... dunno yet.

I am still working with a basic 3-bag system at this point, soon to upgrade with more bags, and then maybe I will do this again and see if I can extract some better quality hash from this material.

YukonBikerGuy
06-30-2008, 05:51 PM
I actually ran 2 batches, for a total of 400g of starting material....

Here is the double batch chopped up to dry, and the same, after about 18hrs of drying time. Once it is completeley dry I will try to remember to weigh it and post yields, if I haven't smoked too much of it before then, lol.

I have smoked a little of each of the 25u and the 73u, and both give a buzz, but I certainly prefer the 73u of the two. The hashes come out blond, and drier rather than sticky and soft, and the high tends to be of a lighter more cerebral variety, almost sativa like.

What strains are in there you say? Some of everything that went through my grow space, including stuff I dont even have going anymore.......

Anyway, hope you enjoyed my post, thanks for looking.

Puff Puff Pass,
YBG

trash into hash any day
i still cant get why some people throw out there trim :confused:

YukonBikerGuy
06-30-2008, 10:07 PM
I know a few people who toss all that right into the woodstove, compost it, or just dump it in the woods.... :( Maybe people are too conditioned into thinking that the flowering buds of the wonderful cannabis plant are the only parts with any value. Some of my best smokeables have come from the little sticks and leaves I pull out of buds as I roll, that pile up on my rolling tray, saved in a big jar untill there is enough to process..... Maybe I am just too frugal, but why toss away all those little trichromes I've worked so hard to cultivate? My personal philosophy at the moment seems to be use all of the plant to the fullest possible extent, and waste as little as possible.

Very nice YBG, looks very tasty, are you planning on weighing it?

YukonBikerGuy

Its still drying, but I will weigh what I haven't smoked probably tommorrow, it should be quite dry by then so I can get a truer weight.

YukonBikerGuy
07-01-2008, 09:34 PM
Final dry weights as follows:

160u = 0.6g
73u = 4.3g
25u = 5.8g

So, yippee, I got the rest of the bags, now I have the complete 8 bag 5 gallon kit! I'm pretty much out of all the hash from the last batch in this thread, so what a good time to test the new bags and process the rest of that crappy garbage trim that I showed at the start of the thread, plus a bit more collected since. I ran 3 full loads of it through the Bubblenow this time, each run for 15 minutes.

:brainiac: Did it a little different this time, to save my self a little time and labor, in between runs, when I pulled the bags I didnt collect the hash, just restacked the bags back into the emptied bucket, and collected it all at one time after the last run went in.

Nice lumps, even if the first 1 is tiny, yay cuz that probably isnt very good anyway. A lot more 45u than anything else, when chopped up I spread it out by the 190 and still needed more cardboard to put it on. :snake: Then some closer shots of the various grades.

I will post a few more shots as it dries.

*If I didnt have this hash I made from trash, I would have nothing to smoke at all right now, and that is worth every bit of time, energy, and bag of ice I put into it.:smoke1:

Big BUMP.

I went at it hard yesterday, and made some more hash from my saved up veg trim.

I have 2 bubblenow bags to use, with 200g each per batch of dry material, I processed 1600g of this material yesterday..... Ow my aching back, lol.

YukonBikerGuy

So here is the hash. I did a slightly different process this time, I borrowed a second set of bubblebags from a friend, and for the second runs (15 minute mixes) I only used the 220u bag to clean out the vegetation, the 120u to catch all the cooking hash, and the 25u to catch all the smoking hash. The first run (6 minute mix) I used all 8 bags for maximum seperation.

From my experience - and also the opinion of others I have talked to - it's mostly about how the resin blocks the bags if you run too much. With fanleaves/males etc. you could probably run quite a bit more than if you do buds/sugar leaves.

YukonBikerGuy

I have tried using more than 200g, it just doesn't work as well. With the veg trim it needs the room for the ice to bash it up, with the frosty stuff too much also seems to clog up the bubblenow bag with stickiness.

Can't be wasting any of that stickiness!!! and shit. I just threw some whole male plants in the fire place the other day. I didn't know male plants even grow trichromes! I best start saving all that trim I thought was garbage!

OK, hash is dry now, here are some final pics of the batch.

http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/5/1/6/SecondRunPiledMedium.JPG
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/5/1/6/PackagedhashMedium.JPG

So I started with 1600g of veg trim, ran it through the Bubblenow, and the final numbers are:

First Run(6 minute mix)
190u+160u+120u= 4.6g (I mix all this together and throw it into the cooking pile)
90u = 2.9g
73u = 7.5g
45u = 12.5g
25u = 2g
First run total = 29.5g

Second Run(15 minute mix)
190u-120u mixed = 4.7g (cooking pile)
90u - 25u mixed = 24.5g (guest hash, they don't know any different)
Second run total = 29.2g

First Run total = 29.5
Second run total = 29.2
Grand total for both runs = 58.7g

About a 3.7% return of hash from material most people burn, bury, or throw away...

very impressive Yukon. Did i hear correctly? you ran two bubblenow bags in the machine at the same time?

No, not in the machine at the same time. Just had 2 to use so I could get 1 filled and ready while the other was spinning.

Yes, 2 seperate water runs. Mix for 6 minutes, drain, add more water and top up with ice and mix again for 15 minutes.

Thanks for the bump Rhino. I just made some more veg trim hash, and got a couple photos to share.
From some slightly frosty veg trim, wet:
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/5/1/6/IMG_1712Medium.JPG
Same, dried for 4 days:
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/5/1/6/IMG_1703Medium.JPG
Ran several mixes thru the bags, emptying the majority of the water from the bottom of the bucket, and pouring in the next wash. I would leave enuff cold water in the bucket to keep the hash and the bag screens cold. Think I ran 10 or 12 washes of this veg trim, about 12 min per wash, single run only. The wet hash patties:
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/5/1/6/IMG_1698Medium.JPG
Chopping it all up took a while:
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/5/1/6/IMG_1699Medium.JPG
There was more 45µ than anything else:
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/5/1/6/IMG_1700Medium.JPG
The same, dried for 4 days:
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/5/1/6/IMG_1713Medium.JPG

This is B grade hash, you can see the greeness which fades a bit as it dries. Most of the hash is total powder at the slightest touch, the 45µ has a little stickyness and I can ball it up in my fingers easily. Total yield for both batches of veg trim hash was about 40g.

Keep in mind I made this from 'garbage'.... material most people throw away.... ALL trimmings, veg trim from pruning and cutting back vegging plants, yellow dead leaves, pre-flower and mid-flower prunings, Fans from flowering plants, culled males, cloning scraps, the works. Most people would bury, burn, or throw this material away.

Hard times with B grade hash to smoke is waaaaaay better than hard times with nothing to smoke. B grade to us hash connoisseurs is often better hash than most people ever have access to, and as such can make a nice gift to an appreciative but less well off friend. This hash is perfect for infusing into butter or milk for cooking. Works good mixed into 'salad' joints to beef up yer brickweed. I'm sure there are many suggestions for good uses of this type of hash out there, come up with new 1's. To me, this is FREE hash. Ok, it cost ice, labor, and a tiny amount of electricity, meh. At that cost, this hash is perfect to experiment with :D

Thanks for looking,
YBG

Question, YBG.......can I take the 190-160 to make BHO?

YukonBikerGuy
08-23-2009, 05:52 PM
Solvent based extracts are verbotten here, and I cannot in good conscience reccommend potentially dangerous actions in this public forum.

Those grades of hash are good for mixing into joints, cooking with, or giving away to yer broke-with-no-smoke friends. I'm sure many others can also think of several other things to do with these lower grades of hash.

Time for another installment. I like to make hash from stuff most folks consider garbage, in this case its mostly sticks, and some leaves from my rolling tray scraps, plus seed hulls and some other scrap from a recent seed harvest.

I put the material in the deep freezer for 2 days prior to making the batch, then when I loaded the Bubblenow I let it chill for 10 minutes before mixing. I ran the first mix for 6 minutes and the second mix for 15 minutes.
Here is the material I started with
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/5/1/6/IMG_1986Medium.JPG
Loaded into the Bubblenow bag

Mix for 6 minutes

Foamy mix, agood sign of things to come
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/5/1/6/IMG_1989Medium.JPG
Just to show that the 220µ bag still keeps crap out of the hash
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/5/1/6/IMG_1990Medium.JPG

First run patties chopped

http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/5/1/6/IMG_1994Medium.JPG
both runs chopped up to dry
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/5/1/6/IMG_1997Medium.JPG

Quite a bit of hash, I must say I was suprised by the amount. Also suprising to me, the 'sweet spot', ie the more potent/sticky hash was in the 73µ, 45µ, and 25µ bags, the hash in the bags above will be for cooking or hard times, or friends who are broke with no smoke. Nice way to use up my rolling tray scraps and whatnot in my opinion.

Hope y'all enjoyed my lil show & tell.

Yes, it's that time again. Looked in the corner of the grow room and realised I had 3 paper grocery bags full of veg trim and various grow room scraps, including a few slightly frosty fan leaves even. Time to make that pile of trash into some hash!

Let's begin, shall we?

Here is the first of the 3 bags of trim, some of the purplish leaves in there

A nice foamy mix
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/5/1/6/IMG_2337Medium.JPG
Grabbed some of the water and put a light behind it, you can see the hash in there too
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/5/1/6/IMG_2335Medium.JPG

I 'cheated' a bit in my method for this hash. I kept emptying into the bags, and then pulling the bags out of the bucket without unstacking them, 'jerk & tug' most of the water out (leave enough cold water in there to keep the wet hash cold) and put it back into the bucket to recieve the next draining from the Bubblenow. Gotta be carefull when doing this to not have a bag in the middle of the stack fall down. Using this technique I only had to clean the hash out of the bags twice (when it got too hard to J&T the water out) for the whole 3 paper bags full of material I ran.

Here is the 220µ bag on the first hash pull; you can see the pulverized vegetive material that has made it out of the zipper bag and into the hash water (and what I slopped filling the bags) has all been caught here, and kept out of the hash.
