:) Thx Hashbean and Batiba for the inspiration. It's been a trip ive wanted to make since i 1st met the RooR team at Cannatrade and Cannabusiness shows.
Breaking my RooR was the perfect reason to finally make the trip.
I hopped onto a train and headed north. An hour later I was crossing into Germany, a couple hours later I arrived in Mannheim, was picked up at the train station and wisked off to RooR in nearby Frankenthal.
Here is the Shop *if your driving there i hope u have a navigator*

:) Here is one of 2 lathes used to make the bongs.
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/3/5/DSC_1176.jpg
Careful not to leave any greasy fingerprints, the bongs are wiped using a towel and gently placed in the lathe
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/3/5/DSC_1177.jpg
The flame is applied to the area of the bong that is going to be worked on.
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/3/5/DSC_1178.jpg
The lathe turns the bong round and round at and even speed so the whole area is heated evenly
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/3/5/DSC_1179.jpg
Looking through the bottom of the bong.

today i talked to marc about the research and he said he is able to do the bowls one more without having the prototypes so you don`t need to send them...
trichomefarmer
08-21-2008, 06:10 PM
cool
2 of them work very well.
They probably come out better when he makes them again.

:) This sequence shows the coloured ice-catchers being made.
Starting with the green.
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/3/5/DSC_1180.jpg
1st the bong is heated in the general area, then the coloured glass is heated and applied to the bong.
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/3/5/DSC_1181.jpg
The green glass is melted into the bong wall so there are no edges.
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/3/5/DSC_1182.jpg
Then using a shaped carbon rod, the molten glass is slowly pushed in. :)
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/3/5/DSC_1183.jpg

:) Now the same process but with yellow and a slightly less hot flame, as the yellow is prone to bubbling at to high temperatures.http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/3/5/DSC_1184.jpg
:bong1:
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/3/5/DSC_1185.jpg

:) On to the red ice catcher
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/3/5/DSC_1187.jpg
The ice catcher on the bottom that looks red is the yellow, which is still red hot from just being applied.
Pushing in the red ice-catcher.
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/3/5/DSC_1188.jpg
:bong:
The lathe is on and the bong is being rotated, while the flame is heating up the area where the work was done. This needs to be done do prevent cracking due to uneven surface temperatures.
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/3/5/DSC_1189.jpg
You can see the 3 coloured ice catchers through the bottom of the rotating bong.
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/3/5/DSC_1191.jpg and from the side
The 3 rasta coloured ice-catcher notches cooling down.

In order to show me how the signature process went we ended up using this bong as a demo.
:)
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/3/5/DSC_1193.jpg
The signature being drawn on.
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/3/5/DSC_1194.jpg
Melting the signature in the glass wall of the bong
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/3/5/DSC_1195.jpg
The signature must be smooth with no edges that cause cracks as the bong cools down. Once again reheating the surface area evenly as the bong is manually turned
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/3/5/DSC_1197.jpg
:bong2:
With the signature and the ice-catcher holes finished it is now time for the bong to cool down before it gets labeled.

While we are waiting for the bong to cool down let's have a look around.

Kilns, lathes and one guy who has most likely helped make your roor. :)
http://www.fullmeltbubble.com/gallery/files/3/5/DSC_1241.jpg
A big ass kiln. the kilns are used to heat the bongs up to the same temperature throughout the bong (anealling) i believe ;) This process strengthens the glass.

Woohoo :)
I was lucky enough to be permitted to do my own signature.
I have sat at a torch a few times before, although not anytime recently.
But I brought my own glassblowing glasses.
After some quick refresher tips, I passed my camera over to my friend donned the purplish tinted nerdy glasses. :)

I had no pond to cross. Just some artificial line, where the colour of the officials uniforms change. :):( On that trip I had the pleasure of not seeing any officials other than the ticket checker. So far as I know unused glass is not an issue in europe.
It's great to see this thread still entertaining. The bong is still being appreciated on a daily basis, and since my last visit in november I've added a nice ROOR ash catcher w/diffuser :p
