Thread: dry ice trichome extraction with stb

Default dry ice trichome extraction with stb

Picked up some dry ice today to do a run of bubble with this new technique, sticky dragon who some of you remember from vegas + santa cruz nugs and jugs stopped by to help out with the adventure.

    On with the pics!

sometimes the dry ice freezes the surrounding water, if you know anything about dry ice, you dont put it in a sealed container as the co2 releases as it melts....solid ice = sealed container. The hunks of dry ice can explode with enough pressure and send pieces of ice flying, so be careful. The best thing to do is poke and prod the chunks as they go, the bubbling will shake off the trichs for you

even the third run from a bubble now comes out shiney.

when using the bubble now you must not put the dry ice in the bag, it will inflate it to the point the bag gets damaged, and causes so much pressure the motor wont spin properly. If you put it outside of the bag, it lets it breathe and still agitate the water ferociously.

dry ice gets the nod from stb

I dont let it soak ever. water is warmer than a freezer so letting it soak would make the trichs less brittle.

I bought 5lbs at the supermarket for under $6, at the ice manf plant in my town they sell 5lb blocks around 8x10x1.5" for 1.99, its only a buck or so cheaper than regular ice at that price.

I did 150 grams trim to 5lbs dry ice and that bubbled up real good for 20 mins, which let me do 2 5 min bucket runs and 1 10 min run in bubble now

I dont want to make this a definitive statement until I do a few more side by side runs from strains of various sized heads, but at this point in time I dont see how or why it would be untrue.

longer extraction window, more yield, higher quality hash.

downside: can be a few bucks more, you cant leave it alone for too long or it freezes, you can injure yourself with dry ice if your not careful, you cant send a minor to buy it.
