how tall are the plants when its time to retrieve those tri's. do you "top" them early so they get fat?

can you suggest a "shorter" strain? I ordered a dwc with lights but i need to stay as small as i can get while still saving quality, i am limited to 4 plants so im not expecting a mother load.
