I've tried. A little bit of resin is in my joint holding the diffuser.

are you sure its resin? I only get waterlock, which is a bitch and the biggest problem for GonG. If it's waterlock, be careful not to just pull it out as this is the most common way to chip your joint. If washing it doesn't work (it rarely does) then take your lighter and leave it on all the waterlocked areas of the joint. keep moving the lighter becase if you leave it in one place too long it will leave a burn mark. After a while the water in your joint will evaporate and one all the water is definitely gone, give the downstem a twist and it should pop out. If you try and twist it and it doesn't want to move keep using the lighter even if you see no water in the joint because there is still a small amount. Hope that helps, the best way to avoid water locking is to never never never leave your downstem in your tube after smoking. Another way is to go with a stemless bong, which in my personal opinion is the best type of tube one can get.
