New Mexicans...Get ready to Grow!

On Monday, September 8, 2008 at 9:00 a.m., the New Mexico Department of Health will hold a public hearing on 7.34.4 NMAC "Licensing Requirements For Producers, Production Facilities and Distribution" and 7.34.3 NMAC "Registration Identification Cards".

Under current state law, the only qualifying conditions for the medical cannabis program are:
  • Cancer
  • Glaucoma
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Epilepsy
  • Spinal Cord Damage with Intractable Spasticity
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Also, any patient in hospice care could qualify.
If your patient does not have a qualifying condition and you feel they would benefit from the medical use of cannabis, that person can petition the Medical Advisory Board to add their condition to the current list.

ebi's note: This hearing is for patients and their caregivers. This hearing will also address the issue of "non-profit production facilities" which will supposedly allow up to 95 mature plants at one time. Individual patients will be allowed 4 mature plants and 12 seedlings. Each patient is allowed to posses up to 6 ounces of medicine. So far, the state has approved 169 people!
